We are seeking passionate and skilled Ecologists / Botanists to enhance our established national team of ecological specialists.
The position offers flexibility in location, with options available in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast offices. Similar roles are also available in Sydney, Newcastle and Perth.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of our national team, which includes botanists, zoologists, environmental planners, scientists, and engagement specialists, you will engage in multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects.
Your primary responsibilities will include conducting fieldwork and preparing environmental reports to support clients with planning approvals, ecological impact assessments, targeted threatened species surveys, ecological management plans, offset management plans, and ecological monitoring.
Daily tasks will involve:
- Performing flora surveys in south-east Queensland
- Expanding your expertise in vegetation rehabilitation and monitoring techniques
- Contributing to project planning, ensuring adherence to deadlines and budgets
- Fostering strong client relationships and actively participating in project proposal writing
- Completing training with the Queensland Herbarium on BioCondition and Regional Ecosystems
- Committing to ongoing professional development through membership in scientific organizations, involvement with environmental groups, and attendance at workshops and conferences
- Mentoring graduates and supporting their professional growth
Candidate Profile
You hold a degree in an Environmental or Natural Science discipline such as ecology, botany, biology, or a related field.
You likely possess prior consulting or advisory experience in biodiversity impact assessment and offsetting.
The ideal candidate will also demonstrate the following skills and experiences:
- Field experience in flora surveys, ecological monitoring, and identification of plant species and threatened ecological communities
- Proficiency in plant identification within the Southeast Queensland region
- Familiarity with biodiversity legislation and policy, including the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, Nature Conservation Act 1992, and the Vegetation Management Act 1999
- Experience in field survey design, data collection, mapping, and adherence to survey guidelines for flora
- Competence in GIS, field mapping, and managing spatial datasets
- A strong passion for ecology, conservation, biodiversity, and natural resource management
