Principal Ecologist/Technical Director – Biodiversity

GHD's Natural Resources group is seeking a highly experienced and skilled Principal Ecologist/Technical Director – Biodiversity to join our ecology team in NSW. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a range of high-profile projects, collaborating with our passionate and well-established cohort of terrestrial and aquatic ecologists.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field-based botanical survey work, including vegetation mapping, ecological monitoring, and threatened flora survey.
  • Lead ecological impact assessments and offsetting for various projects, from small-scale infrastructure impact assessments to major projects of state significance.
  • Design and implement ecological monitoring programs, surveys for threatened species, and assess the benefits of environmental watering projects.
  • Prepare proposals and technical reports for public and private sector clients.
  • Manage ecology-focused and multi-disciplinary projects, working with and supporting teams to deliver projects.
  • Collaborate with GHD staff from various disciplines, including Environmental Planners, Cultural Heritage Advisors, and Engineers.
Requirements:
  • 10+ years of experience conducting vegetation surveys in NSW.
  • Strong ability to develop and build upon client relationships.
  • Biodiversity Assessment Method accreditation and experience in preparing technical reports.
  • Good botanical identification skills, including experience using dissecting microscopes and identification keys.
  • Willingness to travel and work in remote areas.
  • Experience liaising with clients and approval authorities on complex projects.
  • Commitment to high-quality and technically robust deliverables.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight timeframes and within budgets.
