Therapy Dog Specialist Role

We empower people with low vision or blindness to build independent and fulfilling lives by providing tailored solutions to overcome barriers.

This position plays a vital role in creating opportunities, championing the rights of individuals with low vision or blindness, and building communities that share our mindset and ambition for accessibility and inclusivity.

The key responsibilities include:

  • Accurately administering dog, client, and stakeholder information through relevant platforms.
  • Providing support on various social media platforms.
  • Sharing detailed information about dogs and client placement with teams as required.
  • Furnishing feedback about dogs and outcomes in a timely manner to stakeholders, volunteers, and relevant staff.
  • Informing training practices with accurate observations and interpretations of canine behavior.
  • Utilizing end-user goals to inform and drive all practices and outcomes.
  • Assessing applicant clients and organizations for scheduled appointments.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Cert IV in Dog Training and Behaviour or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated capacity to understand and prescribe Public Access Test.
  • Ongoing education in dog handling/training skills.
  • Working knowledge of Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.) and Salesforce or similar and social media (Facebook and Messenger).
  • Skills in problem identification, communication, and solution-solving.
  • Ability to manage physical demands of job, including daily walking while managing a dog.
  • Driver's license recognized in NSW for transporting dogs and conducting client visits.
