Senior Research Engineer
At Edith Cowan University, we are at the forefront of an industry-funded initiative that aims to revolutionise the future of electric vehicle batteries. Our mission is to transform the landscape of battery reuse and recycling, reducing environmental footprints, enhancing safety measures, and unlocking new market potentials.
To achieve this vision, we are seeking a Senior Research Engineer in Battery Technologies. The successful candidate will possess a strong chemical engineering background, coupled with extensive research and development experience. They will have deep insights into battery cell design, electrochemistry, safety protocols, health assessments of end-of-life batteries, and performance optimisation of retired EV batteries.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement research projects related to battery cell design and testing.
- Conduct experiments and analyse data to improve battery performance and safety.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve research goals.
- Communicate research findings through publications and presentations.
- Stay up-to-date with industry developments and advancements in battery technology.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.
- PhD in chemical engineering.
- Significant experience in research and development related to battery cell design and testing.
- Thorough understanding of health and safety issues of electric batteries, particularly lithium-ion.
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory or industrial setting, conducting experiments related to materials recovery.
- Familiarity with recycling processes, materials recovery, and the circular economy principles applicable to battery materials.
- Evidence of research excellence through publications.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Experience in mineral processing is desirable.
