Police Director

The Police Chief oversees the district sworn police force and security functions, maintaining cooperative relations with law enforcement agencies. They provide safety and security services at each campus to preserve order, prevent crime, protect life and property.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree in administration of justice or a related field, along with seven years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, including two years in a supervisory or management capacity.
Key Responsibilities:- Leadership and Direction: Provides leadership and direction to the District's Police Department, managing enforcement of all laws on campus.
- Law Enforcement Operations: Coordinates police staff response to alarms and radio calls, investigates crimes and other violations, and testifies in court.
- Supervision and Training: Supervises and trains police personnel, advises staff of problem areas, and directs the assignment and training of staff.
- Campus Safety and Security: Coordinates and evaluates police patrol of college grounds and facilities, observes and controls students, visitors, and other personnel using campus facilities as necessary.
- Discipline and Compliance: Provides police support in matters of alleged violations of student conduct, prepares or supervises preparation of documents supporting student discipline.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in administration of justice or a related field.
- Experience: Seven years of increasingly responsible law enforcement experience, including two years in a supervisory or management capacity.
- Licenses and Certificates: Possession of a valid California driver's license, Basic POST Academy Certificate, POST Supervisory Certificate, First Aid/CPR Certificate, and certification for possession of firearms.
- Promotion of Diversity: Ability to promote a positive image of the police department to the college community and to the community at large.
This is a Fair Labor Standards Act exempt position, requiring more than eight hours a day and/or forty hours per workweek. May be required to work a flexible workweek which includes day and evening hours and occasional weekend assignments and may be assigned to any district location.
