Academic Lecturer in Performing Arts

Edith Cowan University is seeking two part-time lecturers in the Bachelor of Performing Arts. The successful candidates will contribute to the existing team of performing arts practitioners and educators, teaching and mentoring students in the areas of actor training and/or vocal training and devised, site-specific or physical performance.
The ideal candidates will have a proven track-record as a lecturer in performance studies, theatre studies, or an allied discipline at a tertiary level, with a minimum of a Master's level qualification or equivalent professional industry experience. They will also have demonstrated capacity to develop, coordinate, and review teaching curriculum in the performance making discipline at a tertiary level.
The lecturers will be expected to teach both studio-based practice and contextual theory and history related to that practice, such as history of Australian Theatre, and the history and theory of theatre and performance. They will also be responsible for building strategic networks and collaborative relationships with industry and demonstrating a commitment to equity and inclusion.
As part of the Performance Making major, students study the devising of text, character, story, and physical performance, and apply these skills to a series of projects of group devised, site-specific, directed, and puppetry performance. In a final independent project, students work in small pre-professional companies to conceive, research, rehearse, and produce their own performance.
