Privacy and Data Protection Officer

This is a highly sought-after position in the field of data protection, requiring an individual with expertise in implementing privacy frameworks and ensuring compliance with data privacy regulations.

We are looking for a skilled Privacy and Data Protection Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling Personal Information Requests, managing data privacy breaches, and conducting Data Protection Impact Assessments.

  • Personal Information Requests: Handle requests in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Data Privacy Breaches: Manage low-risk non-reportable breaches, incidents under limited supervision, and reportable breaches under supervision.
  • Data Protection Impact Assessments: Conduct DPIAs under supervision.
  • Review of Policies and Collection Notices: Review standard contractual clauses, policies, and collection notices to ensure compliance.
  • Liaison with Regulators: Assist with liaison with privacy and data protection regulators to maintain strong relationships.
  • General Legal Requests: Support general privacy data protection legal requests from the business.
  • Maintainance of Privacy Intranet Page: Maintain and update the Privacy intranet page to provide accessible information.
  • Training and Staff Development: Assist with staff trainings and training material preparation on essential topics, including I&Bs, PIRs, DPIAs, and regulatory reforms.
  • Metrics-Based Management Reports: Compile metrics-based management reports to track progress and identify areas for improvement.

Key Requirements:

  • Qualifications in Legal Studies or Law degree (admitted to practice in Australia desirable).
  • Legal experience in insurance or financial services industry, either in private legal practice or corporate organisation (preferably insurance company or other financial institution).
  • Experience in similar role within privacy and data protection team.
  • Proficiency in operating systems and processes for conducting Personal Information Request reviews.
  • Litigation case management experience preferable but not essential.
  • Able to manage competing priorities in busy high-pressured environment.
  • Excellent time management and organization skills.
  • Strong inter-personal skills and ability to communicate findings and outcomes professionally.
