Job Title: Financial Specialist

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a supportive and community-focused local government team as a Financial Specialist.

About the Role:
  • The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing and managing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions efficiently and accurately.
  • Maintenance of financial records and ledgers on a regular basis will also be required.
  • Supporting month-end and year-end financial reporting and audits as needed will be an essential part of the role.
  • Assisting in the preparation and monitoring of budgets and forecasts will also be key responsibilities.
  • Ensuring compliance with local government accounting standards and legislative requirements will be crucial.
  • Liaising with internal teams and external suppliers or contractors to resolve finance-related queries will be an important aspect of the job.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the finance team and processes will be highly valued.
Requirements:
  • A strong educational background in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in transactional finance or a similar finance officer role, preferably within local government or the public sector.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger functions.
  • Familiarity with local government accounting practices and relevant legislation would be highly desirable.
  • Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a small finance team.
  • Proficient in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel. Experience with Synergy software would be a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
