About the Role

Lithgow City Council is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Animal Shelter Officer to join our team in Lithgow, NSW. As a key member of our animal care team, you will be responsible for ensuring the welfare and well-being of animals in our care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and provide care for impounded animals, including reporting any health issues and administering basic oral medication.
  • Accept impounded animals into the shelter and input them into our animal shelter register and the Companion Animals Register.
  • Clean and maintain kennels, cattery, external runs, and surrounding areas, adhering to all quarantine and disinfection procedures.
  • Arrange for and participate in the euthanasia of animals not suited for rehoming.
  • Observe and report on any health issues with impounded animals to the Senior Ranger.
  • Assist customers in the identification, release, and adoption processes, and manage the release of animals from the shelter.
  • Participate in Lithgow City Council's after-hours service when required.
Requirements
  • Relevant qualifications in an appropriate field.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal care and welfare issues.
  • Significant experience in handling companion animals.
  • Experience in handling livestock.
  • Current Class C driver's licence.
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
  • Demonstrated ability to work within a team environment.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of animal care and welfare issues.
  • Computer literate in basic office applications and the ability to quickly learn corporate applications.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of Work Health and Safety.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of honesty and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certificate II in Animal Care (or equivalent).
  • Qualified microchip implanter (NSW).
  • Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Dangerous Dog Handling qualifications and/or significant experience.

  • A competitive salary between $1,106.51 and $1,223.37 per week, commensurate with your skills, qualifications, and experience.
  • A permanent, full-time position with 35 hours per week.
