Regulatory Legal Advisor Job

The Regulatory Legal team is responsible for providing advice and support to the organization's regulatory activities.

Our team supports the Regulatory Operations Group by:

  • providing expert legal advice on evidence gathering, issuing statutory notices, and investigation procedures
  • assisting with preparing briefs of evidence
  • working closely with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution and the Inspector when a prosecution is commenced
  • facilitating continuous improvement projects and identifying trends and capability opportunities for inspectors

We are seeking a skilled Legal Advisor to work under limited direction and provide client-focused specialist legal and strategic advice and support to staff on complex legal and policy matters.

The successful candidate will be responsible for resolving problems, managing risk effectively, and managing their workload in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal procedures.

To be eligible for this role, you must have:

  • admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory (3 years or more post admission experience is desirable)
  • a current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months

Key requirements for this role include:

  • Character clearance (Australian Criminal History Check)
  • Employee Health Declaration
  • Six months probationary period for new engagements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security Clearance
