Maintenance Planning Role

The primary objective of maintenance planning and scheduling is to prevent breakdowns.

As a Maintenance Planner, you will improve workforce productivity and quality by anticipating and eliminating potential delays through planning and coordination of labor, parts, materials, and equipment access.

You will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and coordinating all plannable maintenance work performed within the facility, while maintaining liaison between Production and Maintenance. This role requires strong communication skills to provide expert maintenance advice to operations and ensure seamless collaboration.

Maintenance Planning Key Responsibilities:

  • Minimize downtime and interruptions to operations
  • Render better service to operations by performing most important jobs first, in consultation with operations
  • Provide expert maintenance advice to operations through regular maintenance planner reviews
  • Provide a single contact for all in-process, scheduled, and emergency work (area supervisor or functional supervisor)

Maintenance Execution Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine labour resources needed, and time required to complete each job, which aids the maintenance supervisor in measuring the performance of his/her personnel
  • Eliminate delays due to waiting for information, materials, equipment, other skills, tool, etc.
  • Develop an overall plan for the supervisor on which to base his/her pre-thinking and pre-planning for day-to-day work and future work
  • Identify special tool and equipment requirements

Management Reporting Key Responsibilities:

  • Enable accurate forecasting of labour and material needs
  • Recognize labour shortages and excesses immediately
  • Level out peak workloads
  • Provide factual data required for evaluation of performance and corrective action as needed
