As an Orientation and Mobility Specialist, you will play a vital role in helping individuals with low vision or blindness achieve independence and fulfillment in their daily lives.

Job Overview

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about making a meaningful impact on the lives of others. We are seeking an experienced Orientation & Mobility specialist to provide O&M services to support individuals with vision impairment to develop, enhance and maintain independence in their desired activities of daily living.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert guidance and support to clients to help them navigate various environments safely and confidently.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with clients, families, colleagues and supervisors, including individuals of all ages and from culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Conduct comprehensive O&M assessments, synthesize findings in professionally written reports, and communicate results with clients, families and members of case teams, as appropriate.
  • Plan and deliver instructional client-centred Orientation and Mobility programs tailored to meet individual needs.
  • Train clients in orientation and mobility techniques across a range of environments (such as indoor, residential, outdoor, business).
  • Monitor and evaluate a client's O&M skills to identify potentially dangerous situations and intervene as appropriate, to ensure client safety.
Essential Experience:
  • Tertiary qualification in Orientation & Mobility, and current completion of COMS.
  • Ability to travel regularly by car and domestic flight for overnight stays.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work sensitively and effectively with clients and others.
  • Strong time management and organisation skills, with flexibility to adapt to varying workloads and caseload demands.
  • Capacity to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team, ensuring performance targets are met.
  • Attention to detail and skills in analysis, planning and problem solving.
  • Proficiency in utilising computer applications and modern technology.
  • A current unrestricted drivers' licence and good driving record.
  • Willingsness to obtain a Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker check.
