The La Trobe University PhD Scholarship presents a unique chance to contribute to groundbreaking cancer research. In collaboration with esteemed partners, this project focuses on harnessing spatial and spectral information to better comprehend complex materials systems at the molecular level through machine learning.
As a successful candidate, you will work alongside expert researchers in state-of-the-art laboratories, developing novel approaches to individualize tumour type, biomarkers, and genomic characteristics. Your innovative solutions will pave the way for rapid precision diagnoses and tailored cancer care plans.
Key Responsibilities:- Develop multiple instance learning and weak supervision / spatial transcriptomics models to identify tumour types and associated biomarkers with high precision.
- Collaborate with experts in various fields, including cancer biology, physics, chemistry, engineering, and machine learning/data science.
- A stipend scholarship covering living costs for three and a half years.
- Fee-relief scholarship for up to four years.
- Access to professional development programs and opportunities for collaboration with leading researchers.
- Participation in a collaborative project with time spent at Olivia Newton-John Cancer Research Institute and CSIRO.
- Travel opportunities to conferences in Australia and overseas.
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or New Zealand special category visa holder.
- Meet the entrance requirements for the Doctor of Philosophy.
- Agree to be enrolled full-time and undertake research at La Trobe University Melbourne campus if selected.
Candidates with an outstanding academic record, prior research experience, and strong grounding in relevant disciplines are highly regarded. A Working with Children Check is required before commencing the role.
