About This Role:

The position of Senior Strategic Planner is a key leadership role within our planning unit. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, management and implementation of strategic plans, guidelines, policies and projects.

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the effectiveness of our planning processes.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance on planning matters to internal stakeholders.
  • Lead the preparation of planning scheme amendments in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Support the Coordinator Strategic Planning in representing the unit at internal and external meetings.
  • Identify opportunities and solutions to issues impacting the operation, direction and activities of the Strategic Planning Unit.
  • Represent the unit on internal and external groups as required.
  • Prepare project briefs, funding submissions, Council reports and briefing papers, among other documents.
  • Analyse and comment on documents provided by officers, consultants and external sources.
  • Provide an information base for Council, government agencies, developers and the local business sector regarding strategic/structure plans and policies.
  • Conduct effective community consultation, engaging and informing the community.

About You:

We are seeking a results-driven professional with excellent team collaboration skills and a genuine desire for achieving great outcomes for the community.

  • A tertiary qualification in Town Planning, Environmental Planning or a related field.
  • Proven experience leading the preparation of strategic plans, guidelines, policies and managing multiple projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of planning scheme amendment processes, including strategic justification, development of new clauses, schedules and maps, and procedures under the Planning and Environment Act and Victorian Planning Provisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to convey technical information clearly.
  • Strong project management skills and 3-4 years of experience leading projects and teams.
  • Ability to manage own and others' time effectively to achieve project targets within set timelines.
