Genetic Counsellor Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Genetic Counsellor to join our team in the Paediatric and Reproductive Genetics Unit. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert genetic counselling services to clients, including making accurate risk assessments, using a range of counselling skills to facilitate adjustment and decision-making, and working collaboratively with other disciplines.
The successful candidate will hold an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in Nursing, Social Work, or Science, with a postgraduate Masters in Genetic Counselling or equivalent. They will also be eligible and committed to completing Certification in Genetic Counselling as required by the Board of Censors for Genetic Counselling, Human Genetics Society of Australasia.
Key responsibilities include:
- Making appropriate and accurate genetic risk assessments
- Using a range of counselling skills to facilitate clients' adjustment and decision-making
- Assisting in organising tests and collection of samples
- Working cooperatively and collaboratively with members of other disciplines
- Participating in quality assurance, continuing education, staff development and research programs
In addition to these core responsibilities, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work across both the Women's and Children's Health Network and State-wide Clinical Support Services Health Network, providing specialist knowledge to provide genetic counselling, referring patients to specialist practitioners, consenting patients for genomic testing, and contributing to reports and participating in research activities.
