Senior Environmental Compliance and Approvals Specialist
">We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced professional to join our team in the pivotal role of Senior Environmental Compliance and Approvals Specialist. This key position is responsible for the development and execution of environmental management and approval strategies to ensure ongoing compliance with existing approvals, regulations and legislation.
The successful candidate will be required to:
- Oversee future mine approvals and coordinate with technical specialists to navigate NSW planning pathways effectively.
- Collaborate with government departments to secure timely approvals, minimising operational delays during reviews by regulatory bodies, independent panels, and independent commissions.
- Develop strong relationships with regulatory bodies to foster effective communication, collaboration, and alignment with project objectives.
- Ensure continuous compliance with site approvals, licences, leases, and regulations to achieve operational adherence and risk mitigation.
- Lead a team providing guidance and support to members to achieve operational goals and regulatory compliance.
- Drive engagement to environmental aspects across the workforce, promoting sustainability and responsibility.
- Undertake community consultation and consultation with stakeholders and regulatory bodies.
- Ensure the ongoing maintenance and continual improvement of the environmental management system.
- Develop/revise management plans to support ongoing environment and subsidence management; and
- Perform other duties to support the Environmental functions on site required.
To be a strong contender for this unique role, you must have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Science, Environmental Science, Mining Engineering or equivalent qualifications.
- Extensive experience in leading and managing major project implementation, including mine approval projects, plan development and the development of planning approvals.
- Extensive experience in environmental management in a mining-related environment including organisational representation to regulators, local governments and community groups.
- Experience working with Environmental legislation & regulatory frameworks(e.g., EP&A Act, EPBC Act, POEO Act, Mining Act).
- Demonstrated experience in applying an Environmental Management System to deliver system improvements and to lead change management processes.
- Substantial interpersonal (negotiation and influencing skills) and written (report preparation) skills.
