About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Fellow to join our team at Monash University. As a Research Fellow, you will play a crucial role in advancing our understanding of gastrointestinal stem cells and their role in health and disease.

About the Flanagan Laboratory

The Flanagan Laboratory is a multidisciplinary research group led by Dr Dustin Flanagan. Our team investigates the molecular regulation of gastrointestinal stem cells, exploring the intricate cross-talk between stomach stem cells and their surrounding niche cells, particularly in disease states such as cancer and inflammation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Research Excellence: Conduct original, high-level research under limited supervision from the lab head. Collaborate with team members and independently contribute to defined research projects.
  • Publication and Dissemination: Contribute to the production of scholarly publications, including manuscript writing and figure preparation. Present your findings at national and international conferences and seminars.
  • Professional Engagement: Engage in professional activities, subject to availability of funds. Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars to stay abreast of the latest developments in your field.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Lead research projects related to gastrointestinal stem cells.
  • Manage mouse colonies and oversee student supervision.
  • Design and execute experiments, ensuring rigorous scientific methodology.
  • Write grant proposals to secure external funding.
  • Analyse data and prepare manuscripts for publication.

Qualifications

  • PhD in a relevant field (cell biology, molecular biology, or related disciplines).
  • Strong expertise in stem cell research, immunohistochemistry, and molecular techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting research findings and collaborating with colleagues.

Reporting Line: The Research Fellow reports directly to Dr Dustin Flanagan, Lab Head.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Provide direct supervision to graduate and postgraduate students, fostering their growth as researchers.
