The Koori Community Engagement Officer plays a pivotal role in enhancing access to justice for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

About the Role

This position is responsible for delivering key administrative, promotional, and liaison tasks within the court system to support Koori/Aboriginal individuals presenting at Court.

The role aims to improve the court experience for Koori people and their families by:

  • Assisting and advising the Court on matters related to cultural issues affecting Koori communities in Victoria.
  • Providing advice and access to services for Koori offenders and families interacting with the Court.
  • Raising awareness within the court system of cross-cultural issues.
  • Maintaining and fostering links between the Magistrates' Court, the Children's Court, and the Aboriginal community.
  • Liaising with the Aboriginal community to inform them of court processes, including the Koori Court.
Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Planning and managing community engagement projects effectively.
  • Collecting and reporting data, as well as maintaining records.
  • Liaising with diverse stakeholders to achieve project goals.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to create a safe and supportive workplace environment.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrated understanding of cultural issues and the unique challenges faced by Koori communities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to liaise with diverse stakeholders.
  • A current driver's license is essential.
