Job Title: Cultural Support Specialist

The role of a Cultural Support Specialist is to provide support and guidance to teachers in the delivery of educational programs that cater to the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. This position plays a crucial part in creating an inclusive learning environment that values diversity and promotes student participation and achievement.

The specialist acts as a liaison between the community and the school, working closely with parents and other stakeholders to develop and implement education programs that meet the cultural and educational needs of the students. They also provide mentorship and pastoral care to encourage student participation and provide advice on the management of students who require additional support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement behavior management plans tailored to individual student needs.
  • Maintain accurate records and provide regular updates to parents and guardians.
  • Collaborate with community members to develop policies that promote and respect Indigenous culture within the school setting.
  • Conduct interviews and home visits to build relationships with families and better understand their needs.
  • Manage resources effectively to ensure a productive and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of the learning space to ensure it is conducive to learning.

Requirements:

  • Australian or New Zealand citizenship, permanent residency, or a valid visa with work rights.
  • Working With Children Check and a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex ideas simply.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups.
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative team environment and provide leadership on multicultural initiatives.
