Excavation Management Specialist

The Spoil Site Engineer is responsible for overseeing and managing the excavation, handling, and disposal of spoil on site.

  • This role requires technical expertise, on-site management skills, and a strong commitment to safety and environmental regulation.

Key responsibilities include ensuring compliance with technical specifications, legislation, approvals, standards, and risk management processes. This involves inputting information, undertaking minor design on site, monitoring, and recommending changes to design details to increase construction ease.

Additional responsibilities include exercising professional judgement in resolving engineering issues, such as construction methods, design, and engineering procedures. Demonstrating financial management skills, including reducing costs and meeting budgets, is also essential.

Verifying subcontractors' claims and variations, undertaking cost controlling and estimating as required, and implementing and communicating risk controls and actions involved in delivery and implementation of projects are also key aspects of the role.

Demonstrating skills in reporting on project performance, compliance, and defects or non-conformance, managing work and performance of teams and subcontractors, completing site quality documentation, cost control, and tracking registers as needed, and managing quality work lots and ensuring timely closure of completed worklots are all critical functions.

Assisting with site administration tasks directed by the Project Engineer and assisting with cost tracking and forecasting directed by the Project Engineer are also key responsibilities.

Finally, compiling and presenting QA, safety, and performance information as required is an important part of this role.

Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (i.e., Bachelor's Degree in Civil/Structural/Mechanical Engineering);
  • Proven experience in construction site operations, preferably roads, tunnels, or bridges; with specific experience in spoil management highly desirable;
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations and waste management practices;
  • Delivered on major civil infrastructure projects or similar;
  • Advanced commercial acumen, including cost reduction and meeting budgets;
  • Understanding of HSEQ management systems, compliance, and reporting procedures;
  • High level of computer literacy.
