The Safety, Risk and Compliance Manager is a critical position that plays a vital role in ensuring the Aviation Academy's safety management system (SMS) and risk management framework are developed, implemented, maintained, and continuously improved. This role is responsible for conducting audits and investigations, providing expert advice, and ensuring aviation projects are aligned strategically with the University's direction.
Critical to the success of this position is the ability to sustain compliance with national regulators, including the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) and the Tertiary Education Quality Standards Authority (TEQSA), at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive safety management system (SMS) and risk management framework that aligns with the University's strategic direction.
- Conduct regular audits and investigations to identify and mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on safety and risk management matters to stakeholders, including the University's leadership and aviation project teams.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure aviation projects are aligned with the University's strategic direction and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and maintain relationships with external regulators, including CASA and TEQSA, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Stay up-to-date with changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt the University's risk management strategies and systems as required.
Requirements
- Demonstrated understanding of safety management systems and aviation accident/incident investigation and human factors.
- Experience in the successful planning and implementation of quality, safety, and risk management systems, processes, and techniques to support a SMS.
- Proven ability to keep abreast of and identify changes in global regulatory frameworks and adapt organisational risk strategies and systems as required.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of managing compliance and regulatory requirements of aviation contracts, including external regulators.
- Ability to provide strategic guidance, advice, and support on matters relating to risk, quality, and compliance.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team that contributes, fosters, and supports a culture that is collaborative, collegial, compliant, and aligned with organisational values.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively, influence/inspire a safety culture, and develop relationships that aid delivery of business outcomes.
- Superior attention to detail, coupled with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated excellent written communications skills.
