Education Policy Specialist

This role is a critical position in driving improvement of educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

  • Policy Development and Advocacy:
    • Lead the development of education policies to enhance Indigenous student success across NSW, VIC, SA, and nationally.
    • Provide strategic guidance to inform policy initiatives that support Indigenous student success.
    • Engage with Commonwealth departments and agencies to advance CNS objectives.
    • Monitor and respond to emerging policy opportunities to drive positive change.
  • Stakeholder Engagement and Partnerships:
    • Build relationships with Indigenous organisations and peak bodies to foster collaboration and shared goals.
    • Facilitate community input into policy processes to ensure Indigenous voices are central to national education reform.
    • Collaborate with families and local groups to inform policy decisions that benefit Indigenous students.
    • Represent CNS in forums and working groups to promote the interests of Indigenous students.
  • Strategic Influence and Impact:
    • Apply strategic thinking to advance CNS objectives and drive meaningful impact.
    • Participate in high-level discussions with government and Indigenous leaders to shape education policy.
    • Develop advocacy strategies aligned with CNS goals to influence policy and drive positive change.
  • Representation and Communication:
    • Represent CNS at conferences and policy forums to promote the interests of Indigenous students.
    • Deliver presentations to diverse audiences to communicate the value of education policy work.
    • Prepare policy submissions, briefings, and reports to inform decision-makers and stakeholders.
    • Build trust through professional stakeholder engagement to advance CNS objectives.
About This Role

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified position. Applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander. Confirmation of Aboriginality is required.

Key Requirements
  • Proven experience in policy development and advocacy.
  • Track record of influencing policy at state or national levels.
  • Understanding of Australian education systems.
  • Knowledge of Indigenous education issues.
