  • The Aboriginal Health Worker provides cultural support and care coordination to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people referred to Child & Family Health services by working in partnership with the clinical care providers. This involves delivering culturally safe and person-centered care, prioritizing the needs of individuals and families.
  • Community Maternity Services at a hospital provides maternity care as an outpatient model, emphasizing continuity of care. The service incorporates Midwifery Group Practice (MGP), Maternity Antenatal / Postnatal Service (MAPS), antenatal clinics, and midwifery care in the home postnatally.
  • The Community Maternity Services strives to provide safe, woman-centered care by working collaboratively with women and families who engage with the service.

Essential Requirements

">
  • Being of Aboriginal &/or Torres Strait Islander descent is a genuine occupational qualification for this position under Section 14 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 (NSW).
  • Hold or aspire to hold the Aboriginal Maternal Health Workers course or a minimum Certificate III in Aboriginal Primary Health Care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of significant issues in Indigenous health and its provision.
  • Display skills in health education, care coordination, and experience working as an Aboriginal health worker.
  • Understand early childhood and maternal health issues.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Possess a current NSW Drivers Licence Class C.
