About the Role

The Australian Public Service (APS) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to lead the Space Domain Support Office (SDSO) within the Space Capability Branch. As a key member of the core leadership team, the Director SDSO will play a pivotal role in driving the strategic direction of the Space Domain Capability Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Leadership: Influence the strategic direction of the Space Domain Capability Program, ensuring alignment with Defence's goals and objectives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Lead communications and stakeholder management with senior leaders, both internal and external to the Space Capability Branch.
  • Policy Analysis and Advice: Provide expert policy analysis and strategic advice to the leadership team, ensuring informed decision-making.
  • Commercial Strategy: Develop and implement commercial strategies, corporate governance, quality management systems, and risk management strategies to drive business growth and improvement.
  • Policy Development: Develop policies and frameworks to ensure the effective operation of Space Capability Branch business, including business improvement, strategic planning, workforce capacity planning, recruitment, organisational change management, and business support.
  • Culture and Inclusion: Foster a positive and team-oriented workplace culture that promotes inclusion, mutual support, and collaboration, driving a productive and enjoyable work environment.
About the Team

The Space Capability Branch is responsible for managing and coordinating Defence space capabilities in support of the Integrated Force and national security. The branch is an integrated workforce, consisting of ADF, APS, and contractors, with a focus on centralising and concentrating effort on the management and delivery of Defence space capabilities and outcomes.
