Job Overview
  • This role involves allocating staff to daily news stories and serving as the go-to person for Executive Producers, Producers, and Reporters on shift.
  • The position requires team leadership, attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and cultivating a creative, positive, and productive environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for allocating daily news editing tasks.
  • Serve as a key contact for newsroom editorial staff during each shift, including being the most senior team member on shift over weekends.
  • Have a strategic eye to ensure the best possible outcome for each daily editing requirement.
  • Cover higher duties and support the News Editing Supervisor role when they are on leave.
  • Edit day-to-day material for Nine News programming, including voice-overs, grabs, overlay, graphics integration, and packages.
  • Occasionally work across other news and current affairs programming.
  • Edit feature-style packages across various program styles.
  • Work effectively with Producers and Reporters to provide concise, creative, and accurate completion of content within tight deadlines.
  • Show a deep understanding of how to craft narrative through editing.
  • Compile vision for archive and deliver it to the library.
  • Evaluate technical issues and report them in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate a positive and professional communication style and share information clearly.
  • Participate in a team environment, follow company policies and procedures, support a safe and positive workplace culture, and align with the organization's values.
  • Mentor and train new and senior editors.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in media production, including working as a news editor.
  • In-depth knowledge of editing software, ideally AVID Media Composer or equivalent.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of media file formats and compression codecs.
  • A collaborative team player who is also self-motivated and can work independently.
  • A dedicated professional with a positive, flexible, and proactive attitude.
  • Able to plan and prioritize, work under pressure, solve problems, and demonstrate initiative.
