Position Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable Energy Engineer to take on a pivotal role within our energy and sustainability consulting division. The ideal candidate will serve as a senior technical expert, guiding and mentoring junior staff while overseeing various projects focused on energy efficiency solutions, building commissioning, and green building certifications.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct comprehensive energy audits (Levels I, II, III) in accordance with ASHRAE standards across diverse property types, including residential, commercial, and industrial.
  2. Execute whole-building energy modeling for various asset classes.
  3. Lead commissioning and retro-commissioning efforts for a range of facilities.
  4. Establish best practices for energy audit documentation, modeling, and project execution.
  5. Evaluate the feasibility of renewable energy projects tailored for real estate applications.
  6. Oversee a team of energy engineers and associates, ensuring effective project management.
  7. Participate in the recruitment and training of project managers and engineers.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in energy efficiency, or a Master's degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Exceptional analytical and leadership abilities.
  5. Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  6. Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Proficient in conducting energy analyses of building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and renewable energy technologies.
  2. In-depth understanding of HVAC systems and their influence on energy efficiency.
  3. Familiarity with building automation, envelope, and lighting systems.
  4. Experience in designing, estimating costs, and implementing energy efficiency initiatives.
  5. Background in commissioning and retro-commissioning energy projects.
  6. Proficient in energy modeling software such as eQuest, Energy Pro, Trace, or Energy Plus.
  7. Understanding of building maintenance and operational challenges.
  8. Ability to identify and pursue energy rebate and incentive programs at various governmental levels.

Physical Requirements

  1. Capability to navigate ladders and stairs.
  2. Ability to work in outdoor environments and unconditioned mechanical spaces.
  3. Visual acuity sufficient for reading printed materials and computer screens.
  4. Position involves frequent physical activities such as bending, reaching, standing, walking, and sitting throughout the workday.
