Position Overview

We are looking for a knowledgeable Energy Engineer to join our energy and sustainability consulting division. This role will serve as a senior technical expert, responsible for guiding and mentoring junior staff while overseeing various projects that involve the assessment, validation, design, and execution of energy efficiency initiatives, building commissioning, retro-commissioning, green building certifications, and ESG&R consulting.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct comprehensive energy audits (Level I, II, III) in accordance with ASHRAE standards across diverse property types, including residential, commercial, industrial, healthcare, and retail.
  2. Execute whole-building energy modeling for various asset categories.
  3. Oversee commissioning and retro-commissioning processes for a range of properties.
  4. Establish best practices for energy audit documentation, energy modeling, and project execution.
  5. Perform feasibility studies for renewable energy projects tailored to real estate applications.
  6. Lead a team of associates, energy engineers, and subcontractors.
  7. Support the recruitment and training of project managers and engineers.

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in energy efficiency, or a Master's degree in Engineering with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  4. Exceptional analytical and leadership abilities.
  5. Capability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.
  6. Willingness to travel approximately 25% of the time.

Knowledge and Skills

  1. Proficient in conducting energy analyses of building systems, including HVAC, chillers, boilers, plumbing, renewable energy, and variable speed drive systems.
  2. In-depth understanding of HVAC systems and their influence on energy efficiency recommendations.
  3. Familiarity with building automation systems, building envelope, and lighting technologies.
  4. Experience in designing, sizing, estimating costs, and implementing energy efficiency projects.
  5. Expertise in commissioning and retro-commissioning energy efficiency initiatives.
  6. Proficient in energy modeling software such as eQuest, Energy Pro, Trace, and/or Energy Plus.
  7. Understanding of building maintenance and operational challenges.
  8. Ability to identify and apply for federal, state, and utility energy rebate and incentive programs.

Physical Requirements

  1. Capability to climb ladders and stairs.
  2. Ability to work in outdoor environments and unconditioned mechanical spaces.
  3. Visual acuity sufficient to perform job functions, including reading from printed materials and computer screens.
  4. Position entails frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, and pulling throughout the workday.
