This is a fixed-term opportunity to improve environmental data and information for evidence-based regulatory decisions.

The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation is seeking an experienced leader to manage a team dedicated to improving environmental data and supporting regulatory decision-making.

In this key leadership position, you will oversee the development of environmental systems and other projects that strengthen the understanding and stewardship of Western Australia's native vegetation and biodiversity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team to deliver high-quality environmental data and strategic products that support regulatory decision-making.
  • Manage partnerships across government, academia, industry, and community stakeholders.
  • Provide mentoring and support to scientific and policy staff, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Represent the department at interagency forums, conferences, and workshops, contributing to biodiversity policy development and reform.
  • Communicate and promote policy initiatives effectively through briefings and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure outcomes are aligned with departmental strategic goals and delivered on time.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

  • A strong knowledge of Western Australian environmental legislation, policies, and government processes.
  • Extensive experience in strategic environmental policy and delivering technical advice.
  • High-level communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across stakeholders.
  • Proven project management capability with a track record of delivering complex initiatives.
  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to develop and motivate teams.

Desirable: A tertiary qualification in environmental science or a related field.
