In this critical role, you will contribute to shaping the nation's biosecurity framework by developing and managing policies that drive regulatory activities across imported food and biosecurity risk pathways.

The Biosecurity Operations Division plays a pivotal role in reducing risk and improving border screening effectiveness. The division is responsible for determining strategies, regulatory frameworks, tactics, and interventions that manage biosecurity risks within transport and trade pathways into Australia.

Cargo & Conveyance Policy & Detection Capability works closely with internal and external stakeholders to improve detection systems and policy capability. This includes deploying surveillance and verification tools and capabilities such as detector dog teams and x-rays.

This position requires an individual who can effectively manage and develop policy aligning with agency strategic objectives. You will:

  • Develop and implement policy initiatives to enhance border security.
  • Build and promote regulatory capability within the department.
  • Contribute to and develop business area improvement initiatives and projects.
  • Effectively communicate, liaise, negotiate with, and respond to internal and external stakeholders.
