Job Overview

Brenntag, a leading global provider of chemical and ingredients solutions, is seeking a highly skilled Safety Engineering Manager to join its team in Melbourne. About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the site's process safety management system, ensuring compliance with Brenntag and international standards. This includes providing on-site guidance and support for new projects, coordinating process safety-related works and activities, and collaborating with local teams to provide process safety guidance.

This role requires a strong background in chemical or process engineering, with experience in process safety management, human factors, design safety, and hazardous materials management. A track record of engineering design, project management, and people management skills is also essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the site's process safety management system, ensuring compliance with Brenntag and international standards.
  • Provide on-site guidance and support for new projects, focusing on good safety engineering practices and protocols.
  • Coordinate process safety-related works and activities, including asset integrity management.
  • Collaborate with local Operations/Logistics/QSHE Teams to provide process safety guidance in acquisitions, projects, modifications, and vendor/service provider sourcing.
  • Drive the implementation of Brenntag's Path-to-Assurance program.
  • Set up and perform internal site process safety assurance programs.
  • Verify engineering and technical documents for safety assurance.
  • Facilitate or organize process hazard analysis sessions.
  • Provide guidelines on controls and safety requirements for HAC/ATEX zoning areas.
  • Work closely with Operations / Logistics departments to ensure standardization of technical and engineering drawings according to sound engineering practices and protocols.
  • Conduct PSM training and investigations.
Your Profile

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced professional with:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Process, Safety, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5-10+ years of experience working in food manufacturing or similar industries.
  • Track record of engineering design, project management, and people management skills.
  • Experience in process safety management, human factors, design safety, HAC/ATEX, PHA facilitation, fire safety, hazardous materials, and DG management.
  • Working experience in the oil/gas/chemicals industry is an advantage.
  • Understanding of batch manufacturing processes is a plus.
