Technical Services Manager Job Description">

This is a key leadership role where you will use your technical facility and workshop experience to make meaningful service improvement to the student experience and success of research projects, in partnership with faculty and school colleagues.

The Technical Services Manager will lead the implementation of service improvements, service excellence, and operational efficiencies within the TSS Workshop teams. They will also act as a cohesive link between the work area, other TSS teams, researchers, students, core research facilities, the broader university, and external clients.

  • Provide effective leadership, management, delegation, coordination, and guidance">
  • Lead the implementation of service improvements, service excellence, and operational efficiencies within the TSS Workshop teams">
  • Act as a cohesive link between the work area, other TSS teams, researchers, students, core research facilities, the broader university, and external clients">
  • Plan and manage the effective utilisation of resources across the designated technical areas of responsibility">
  • Champion best practice workplace health & safety, compliance, and risk management">
  • Oversee risk management and emergency response">

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical services manager to partner with researchers and students working on unique projects and novel solutions. The successful candidate will have relevant tertiary qualifications in engineering or trade qualification and extensive experience in managing diverse workshops in large complex environments.

  • Managing medium to large-sized teams preferably in higher education/research institutions">
  • Leading teams through organisational change">
  • Effective communication with colleagues and stakeholders">
  • Managing and forecasting budgets, approving requisitions, and overseeing expenditure">
  • Experience in subtractive manufacturing technologies: machining/fabrication (e.g. conventional/CNC machine tools, welding), woodworking">
  • Awareness of safety regulations and operating procedures within workshop environments">
