
Cyber Defense Specialist

Cyber warfare technicians play a pivotal role in safeguarding national security by deciphering and analyzing electronic communications, disrupting enemy radar signals, and maintaining cutting-edge equipment and networks.
Key Responsibilities- Conducting in-depth analysis of foreign language communications to identify potential threats
- Transcribing, translating, and interpreting foreign language materials to inform strategic decision-making
- Providing expert guidance on cultural and regional nuances to support Navy, Joint Force, national, and multinational operations
- Operating advanced electronic intelligence-receiving and direction-finding systems to detect and track potential threats
- Developing high-power jamming signals to deceive electronic sensors and counter radar-guided weapons systems
- Providing technical and tactical expertise to support surface, subsurface, air, and special warfare operations
- Monitoring, identifying, collecting, and analyzing information from various sources to inform situational awareness
- Conducting computer network risk mitigation and network vulnerability assessments to protect against cyber threats
Cyber warfare technicians work in diverse environments worldwide, including overseas and stateside commands, aboard ships, aircraft, and submarines, and with Naval Special Warfare. Duties may be performed in an office setting, lab environment, specialized maintenance shop, secure space, or watch environment.
Training & AdvancementAfter completing initial training, those pursuing a cyber warfare technician role attend formal Navy schooling in their specialty area within cryptology. This includes technical A-School and possibly advanced C-School or F-School.
Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance. Specialized training and work experience can lead to credentialing and occupational opportunities in related fields.
