Job Title

We are seeking a skilled Surgical Specialist to join our team. As a key member of the healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing high-quality clinical assessment, management, and consultation to patients with conditions applicable to General Surgery.

About the Role

  • Provide clinical services within the scope of practice as granted by the Medical Advisory Committee and approved by the Board.
  • Liaise and work effectively with nursing staff, allied health professionals, and other stakeholders involved in patient care.
  • Perform ward rounds independently or with others as required for inpatient care at Macquarie University Hospital.
  • In consultation with the admitting doctor, ensure appropriate arrangements are made for patients on discharge from Macquarie University Hospital to maximise continuity of care and good health outcomes.
  • Participate in clinical quality activities, including peer review, audits, and root cause analysis.
  • Present at and represent Macquarie University Hospital at relevant internal and external conferences and similar sessions.
  • Complete and provide evidence of Continuing Medical Education and Development.

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent qualification and general registration as a medical practitioner in Australia and current registration as a medical practitioner in Australia.
  • Documented experience in General surgery and knowledge of and commitment to continuous improvement, evidence-based practice, and promoting a culture of safety, quality, innovation, and best practice in clinical practice, teaching, and research.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the patients' perspective and ability to communicate key information to the patient and carers.
  • A strong commitment to multidisciplinary approaches to clinical care and ability to work as part of a team.
