2026 Acute Surgical Registrar Position

The position of Acute Surgical Registrar is an exciting opportunity to contribute to exceptional patient outcomes while advancing your career in a leading public healthcare provider.

  • This role will allow you to work alongside esteemed surgeons and medical professionals, expanding your expertise and honing your surgical skills.
  • You will play a pivotal role in managing acute surgical admissions and providing comprehensive surgical care to a diverse patient population.
About the Role

There are 10 positions available for 6 month terms. The roles include:

  • Hepatobiliary Service Registrar
  • Colorectal Service Registrar
  • Berri Service Registrar
  • Breast Service Registrar
  • GGIS Service Registrar
  • Night Acute Surgical Registrars (2)
  • Day Acute Surgical Registrars (2)
  • Relieving Acute Surgical Registrar
Your Responsibilities

As an Acute Surgical Registrar, some of your duties may involve:

  • Undertaking 6 month rotations in Acute Surgical Registrar and a choice of Colorectal, HepatoPancreatoBiliary, Breast & Endocrine or Berri Service Registrar.
  • Providing a consultative service to other units as required.
  • Arranging x-ray/pathology review sessions.
  • Attending unit meetings.
About You

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • A Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent qualification.
  • Registrable with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Medical Practitioner with General Registration.
  • Succesful completion of the GSSE.
  • Minimum of 3 year post graduate medical experience (PGY3+).
  • Completed at least 12 months of General Surgery.
  • Preferably have completed EMSTY, Ccrisp and ASSET course.
  • Experience in research and audit work an advantage.
