Key Roles and Responsibilities

The Senior Legal Counsel provides independent legal advice to the Chief Executive Officer, President, Council, and its committees, as well as the Legal Practitioners Board and the Society's officers.

  • Deliver in-depth research and expert legal advice through written reports and oral presentations
  • Manage risk by reviewing, negotiating, and advising on contracts and commercial activities
  • Develop statements of reasons for administrative decisions
  • Collaborate in crafting policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Process applications to access information efficiently
  • Prepare submissions to decision-makers, government, and other relevant entities

Qualifications and Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in law or admission as an Australian lawyer with eligibility to hold an unrestricted Queensland practising certificate
  • Strong critical and strategic legal analysis and research skills with demonstrated ability to produce practical solutions to complex issues
  • Minimum 7+ years PAE experience, preferably with 4 years in private practice corporate/commercial litigation
  • Prior in-house experience and administrative expertise will be highly regarded
  • Knowledge of government structures and processes is also highly valued
