Job Overview

The Regulatory Legal team is responsible for providing advice and support to regulatory activities, including investigations under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011.

  • We offer guidance on evidence gathering, issuing of statutory notices, and investigation procedures.
  • We assist with preparing briefs of evidence (prosecutions).
  • We collaborate closely with the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecution and the Inspector when a prosecution is commenced.
  • We facilitate continuous improvement projects and identify trends and capability opportunities for inspectors.

This role involves working closely with Senior Legal Advisers in performing their duties.

  • You will provide client-focused specialist legal and strategic advice and support to staff on complex legal and policy matters.
  • Resolve problems and manage risk effectively.
  • Manage your workload in accordance with the APS Values and Code of Conduct, the Legal Services Directions 2017, and internal procedures.
Key Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Admission as a legal practitioner of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory.
  • A current Practising Certificate or ability to obtain one within three months.
