Health Specialist Job Description

This position is responsible for the development, management, and continuous improvement of health management systems across the organisation.

The successful candidate will have significant input into, and drive the implementation of, business strategies to manage psychosocial risks in the workplace. This includes overseeing and guiding the management of complex claims in line with business requirements.

The Health Specialist will be responsible for a team of 2 Injury Management Advisors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive the business approach and strategy towards managing workers compensation claims, implementing, maintaining, and managing health & fitness for work systems that meet legislative requirements as well as business needs.
  • Develop, implement, and review strategies for managing exposure to psychosocial risks, ensuring health monitoring programs are in place as per legislation.
  • Evaluate injury trends, analyze data (including participation in injury investigations), and develop action plans to mitigate risks.
  • Oversee and guide the management of salary continuance claims and drive strategies to improve claim performance.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Tertiary qualification in occupational therapy, physiotherapy, nursing, exercise physiology, or other relevant medical field.
  • Extensive experience in health and injury management, preferably in mining or a related industry.
  • Knowledge of health, compensation, and injury management acts, legislations, and standards.
  • Experience managing complex workers compensation claims.
  • Experience in managing psychosocial risks in the workplace.
