About the Role

The Insurance Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in delivering expert insurance guidance to the university, ensuring exceptional service quality while safeguarding the institution against financial risks associated with insurable events. This position is responsible for the administration and oversight of the university's insurance initiatives, which entails evaluating the institution's insurance requirements and proposing optimal coverage solutions and cost-effective terms. The role also involves coordinating and facilitating processes related to the assessment, management, and resolution of claims for the university. Collaborating closely with the broader risk management team, this position is tasked with developing and managing loss prevention strategies and administering risk management programs pertinent to insurable risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the procurement of the university's insurance policies, including property, general liability, medical malpractice, professional indemnity, and directors' and officers' insurance, working with insurers and brokers to gather necessary data for policy renewals and amendments.
  • Engage with insurers, brokers, loss adjusters, and other industry professionals regarding policy coverage, premium structures, claims handling, and industry developments.
  • Provide comprehensive advice to senior management, executive staff, legal teams, faculties, academic departments, and other internal university entities on coverage extent, contractual terms, claims status, and various insurance-related inquiries.
  • Manage the evaluation and resolution of insurance claims, including property and liability claims, ensuring thorough inspection and investigation of significant claims.
  • Assist insurers with claims processes and liaise with loss adjusters and legal representatives as necessary.
  • Develop and implement loss prevention programs and manage risk management initiatives related to insurable risks.
  • Prepare detailed reports on incidents of loss or damage for management and relevant departments, including key performance indicators. Analyze claims patterns and formulate recommendations to mitigate losses.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and university policies, including equity and health & safety regulations, while exemplifying best practices in these areas.
  • Serve as a role model for the principles and values outlined in the university's Code of Conduct, demonstrating fairness, ethics, and professionalism in all interactions.

What We Offer

This is a fixed-term position for 12 months, with the possibility of working across multiple university campuses.

Salary HEW 8, with a base salary range of $XX,XXX - $XX,XXX per annum plus 17% superannuation. The total FTE package ranges from $XX,XXX - $XX,XXX.
