Job Description

About the Opportunity

Provide insurance advice to the university, ensuring a high standard of service delivery and to protect the university from financial losses from insurable risks. The position administers and maintains the University’s insurance programs. This includes analysing the University’s insurance needs and recommending optimum coverage and cost terms. The role is responsible for coordinating and supporting initiatives relative to the evaluation, processing, and handling of claims for the University. Working closely with the broader risk and resilience team, the position also manages and develops loss control programs and administers risk management programs related to insurable risks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the placement of the University’s property, general and product liability, medical malpractice, professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ and ancillary insurance policies through insurers and insurance brokers.  Obtain and collate data from across the University for renewal including reviewing policy wordings and alterations.
  • Liaise with insurers, insurance brokers, loss adjusters and other industry representatives regarding policy coverage, premiums, claims management and industry updates.
  • Provide advice to Senior Management, Executive Staff, Legal Services Unit, Faculties, Schools, Academic staff, students and other internal Affiliated University bodies on the extent of cover, contractual agreement terms and conditions, claims position and other insurance matters.
  • Manage the assessment and settlement of insurance claims such as property, liability program and ancillary policy claims (where necessary) including inspection and investigation of all major claims.
  • Providing assistance to insurers on claims, liaise with loss adjusters and solicitors.
  • Manager and develop loss control programs and administer risk management programs related to insurable risk.
  • Preparing reports on incidents of loss or damage to management or appropriate schools. Elements, including reporting of applicable KPIs.  Analyse claims trends and develop recommendations to reduce losses.
  • Maintain compliance with relevant legislation and University policies and procedures, including equity and health & safety and exhibit good practice in relation to same.  
  • Be a leading example of the principles and values embodied in the University’s Code of Conduct, and behave, act and communicate at all times to reflect fairness, ethics and professionalism.

  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in risk management, financial analysis, and related software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • The occupant of this position will hold relevant tertiary qualifications.

Candidates must have full unrestricted Australian work rights and may be subject to a National criminal history check.

What we can offer

This is a fixed term position for 9 months based at our Nathan campus.  As Griffith is a multi-site University you may be required to work across other campuses.

Salary HEW 8, base salary range $,.25 - $,.68 per annum + 17% superannuation. The total FTE package is in the range of $,.18 - $,.32
