At the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority (APRA), we're seeking a highly skilled Senior Prudential Regulator Leader to join our team.
About APRAWe're committed to providing an inclusive workplace where everyone belongs, feels valued, and respected. Our goal is to foster diversity of background, thought, and experience, recognizing that a broad range of perspectives, approaches, and ideas makes us stronger and better enables us to meet our obligation to protect the financial wellbeing of the Australian community.
About the RoleWe're looking for a Senior Prudential Regulator Leader with significant leadership capability in connecting and collaborating with key stakeholders, leading transformational change, and building relevant capability within the team and externally, in accordance with APRA's objectives.
This role will be a member of the APRA Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Policy & Advice (PAD) Executive team, reporting to the Executive Director. You'll lead a team of professionals to deliver high-quality outcomes, fostering an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust, and allows people to actively contribute and reach their full potential.
You'll contribute to the development and implementation of business plans for the Division to ensure they support APRA's strategic, business, and operational objectives and priorities. Additionally, you'll lead and support the development and implementation of prudential regulation systems and procedures that are targeted at identifying and resolving issues at an early stage.
Key responsibilities include:
- Fostering an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust, and allows people to actively contribute and reach their full potential;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of business plans for the Division to ensure they support APRA's strategic, business, and operational objectives and priorities;
- Lead and support the development and implementation of prudential regulation systems and procedures that are targeted at identifying and resolving issues at an early stage;
- Improve APRA's framework, procedures, and processes for responding to the failure or near-failure of one or more financial institutions;
- Maintain and, where required, enhance APRA's ability to enact the Financial Claims Scheme effectively when required;
- Provide expert level recovery and resolution advice;
- Manage the operation of the Resolution team within agreed budgetary constraints and devise resourcing strategies to address evolving needs.
We're looking for someone with relevant experience in managing complex financial and operational workouts across diverse stakeholder groups gained in a professional capacity. You should have a strong understanding of critical financial infrastructure and its role and interconnectedness in the system to identify points of contagion in workout scenarios.
Additionally, you should have hands-on experience in designing, assessing, or implementing workout or resolution plans, ideally within a professional capacity. Practical experience in developing and running crisis scenarios or 'fire drills' to test workout or resolution plans would be beneficial.
Other requirements include:
- A sound understanding of the principles of prudential regulation and financial sector risks;
- Strong leadership and management capabilities, including the ability to organize and motivate others, and to meet relevant accountabilities;
- An intuitive understanding of what is reasonable and prudent business practice;
- Professional qualifications in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
The estimated annual salary for this role is AU$180,000 - AU$220,000, depending on your experience and qualifications.
