Clayton South, Victoria, Australia Monash University. Full time

Project Overview

The proposed PhD project focuses on developing methods for self-tuning photonic circuits, which will enable complex photonic functionality involving multiple elements on a single chip. This will harness the development of optical microcombs, using the light from these microcombs both to measure the chip response and to enable the chip to process information encoded on microcombs.

Research Objectives

  • Develop novel methods for self-tuning photonic circuits
  • Investigate the use of optical microcombs for chip characterization and information processing
  • Explore the potential of photonic acceleration of information processing using microcombs

Methodology

The project will involve a combination of theoretical modeling, experimental characterization, and numerical simulations. The researcher will work closely with the project supervisor and other team members to develop and implement the research plan.

Expected Outcomes

The successful completion of this project is expected to lead to the development of novel self-tuning photonic circuits and the demonstration of their potential for complex photonic functionality. The project will also contribute to the advancement of optical microcombs technology and its applications in information processing.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in optics, photonics, or a related field, and experience in experimental characterization and numerical simulations. The candidate should also have excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Working Environment

The project will be conducted at Monash University, within the Faculty of Engineering and the Department of Electrical and Computer Systems Engineering. The researcher will have access to state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, and will work closely with a team of experienced researchers and academics.
