Job DescriptionThis is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced individual to join our team as a Senior Animal Technician. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and expertise to staff and researchers, as well as managing and overseeing the care and welfare of laboratory animals.
Responsibilities- Develop and implement effective systems and procedures for animal care and management.
- Collaborate with the La Trobe Animal Ethics Committee and Institutional Biosafety Committee to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Provide technical support and expertise to staff and researchers in various animal handling and husbandry techniques.
- Manage and oversee the care and welfare of laboratory rodents and other species, ensuring high standards of health and wellbeing.
- A Diploma of Animal Technology or equivalent degree, or relevant experience and education/training.
- Proven skills and experience in managing a variety of animals used in research and teaching, including laboratory rodents, aquatic animals, birds, and reptiles.
- Familiarity with the Australian Code for the Care and Use of Animals for Scientific Purposes (2013).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work effectively in a team environment.
