Job Title: Laboratory Technician

Mater Dei College is seeking a skilled and confident individual to join its Science Department as a permanent, part-time Laboratory Technician.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparing and supplying materials and equipment for science practical classes, including purchasing materials and dismantling and cleaning up experiments and equipment.
  • Preparing risk assessments for science practical classes by advising and assisting science teaching staff in safety matters relating to the science laboratory.
  • Ensuring the safe handling and storage of hazardous substances, maintaining Material Safety Data Sheets and labelling chemicals correctly.
  • Organising and maintaining laboratories and preparation areas, creating a safe, tidy, and clean environment.
  • General administration duties, including liaising with supply companies for quotations and procurement of resources.
Requirements:
  • A high level of organisational and time management skills.
  • An understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues and chemical handling.
  • Qualifications and/or experience relevant to the role are highly desirable.
  • A current Working with Children Check (WWC) and National Police Clearance from the Department of Education.
  • Accreditation to Work in a Catholic School, with annually completed online Child Protection Procedures and Mandatory Reporting Training and any other mandatory CEWA training.

  • A high level of autonomy, with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, enabling harmonious and positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and confident in different situations to provide assistance across a variety of tasks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills.
  • Experience in computer literacy and proficiency.
  • An understanding of Occupational Health and Safety issues.
