Cybersecurity Solutions Engineer Defence Digital Modernisation

The Security Tooling Engineer will join our key Defence account, based in our Canberra facility and working within the Security Architecture and Engineering team. Your role will represent security requirements and best practices across various disciplines, including Project Pipelines, Network Operations, Systems Engineering, and Architecture.
Your primary responsibilities will involve deploying, configuring, and sustaining cyber security products and technologies, including Host Based Security Products, SIEM, Network IPS, and related management solutions. A core focus is the ongoing deployment and maintenance of SIEM technologies across a complex environment as well as the automation of existing security processes.
As an engineer in the broader team, you'll mentor and advise a 24/7 team of SOC Analysts who depend on the toolsets you provide. You'll work under the general direction of the Chief Information Security Officer to deliver secure services to the program.
Key duties include:
- Assisting with the design, deployment, and maintenance of Splunk; Tenable
- Collaborating with operational teams to ensure Splunk is configured appropriately and fit for purpose;
- Developing reliable, efficient queries that feed custom alerts and dashboards;
- Creating and maintaining documentation related to Splunk infrastructure;
- Undertaking routine patching and administrative tasks;
- Supporting enterprise Splunk deployments with data feeds from multiple data centres;
- Integration and functional testing;
- Participating in and adhering to change control procedures;
- Supporting and configuring vulnerability scanning across a large environment.
For this role, we're seeking an experienced security engineer with knowledge and interest in a broad range of systems and enterprise security architecture. Ideal candidates will have:
- A solid understanding of endpoint protection and application whitelisting
- Demonstrated experience with security tooling such as Splunk and Tenable
- Experience with change control and ITL framework
- An interest or experience in container and cloud security solutions (Prisma Cloud, Tanium)
This position requires a government NV-2 security clearance; or NV1 with eligibility to upgrade to NV2. Successful candidates must also be Australian Citizens and able to obtain and maintain an Australian Government Security Clearance.
We offer a competitive salary range of $120,000 - $180,000 per annum, depending on experience. Additional benefits include 12 weeks paid parental leave, flexible work practices, discounted health insurance, novated leasing, and more.
