Job Overview

The role of a Mental Health Nurse is to provide expert care and support to individuals within the military population, focusing on operational trauma and occupational health.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough assessments to develop tailored treatment plans for Canadian Forces Members.
  • Deliver direct client care, implementing interventions based on individualized treatment plans in accordance with psychiatric illness and diagnosis.
  • Monitor progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and revise plans as needed.
  • Offer evidence-based counselling using techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Strengths Perspectives, and Motivational Interviewing.
  • Design and deliver psycho-educational sessions on relaxation techniques, stress management, and anger management for individuals and groups.
  • Provide health education to members, their support networks, and others associated with their care.
  • Oversee medication use, educating clients on purpose, administration, intended effects, and side effects.
  • Offer brief interventions for clients in acute distress and ensure access to comprehensive healthcare services.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings related to clinical care and service delivery.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate in Mental Health Nursing or certification in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from a reputable professional body.
  • Three years of experience within the last five years in nursing practice, performing mental health nursing activities.
  • Registered Nurse license from the provincial college in the province of practice.
  • Current certification or willingness to obtain CPR Level C with AED.

Successful applicants must be able to obtain a Government Security Clearance at the Reliability level.
