ICT Design Engineer Job Description

This role is ideal for individuals who have a passion for designing infrastructure solutions that support the growth of businesses. The ICT Design Engineer will be responsible for developing scalable fiber optic and copper plant designs, as well as specifications for construction and permitting.

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience in ICT design, with a strong background in fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products. They will also have excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize tasks and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.

About the Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop Scalable Designs: Create fiber optic and copper plant designs that meet the needs of our customers, while ensuring timely delivery and high-quality standards.
  • Review and Approve Submittals: Review and approve ICT pathway, cabling, and equipment submittals to ensure they meet our quality and safety standards.
  • Identify Risks and Issues: Identify potential risks and issues, and respond rapidly and effectively to ensure minimal disruption to our operations.
  • Support New Technologies: Support the implementation of new technologies and design activities that improve infrastructure quality, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.
  • Travel Requirements: Travel up to 20% to review projects and coordinate with onsite personnel and contractors at our data centers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years Information and Communications Technology (ICT) design experience in Mission Critical Environments
  • 5+ years of developing design documentation (plans, specifications, etc.) for construction and/or permitting.
  • 5+ years of working experience with fiber optic components, cabling, and interconnect products, technologies, and standards
  • Ability to prioritize & consistently deliver results in complex, fast-paced environment
  • Possess excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and maintain high quality standards

Preferred Qualifications:

  • BICSI RCDD Certification or internationally recognized equivalent (e.g. CDCDP, DCDC, etc.)
  • Professional Engineering (PE) Electrical License
  • Experience in AutoCAD or other Computer Aided Design Tools
  • Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs while maintaining or improving quality, reliability, or maintainability
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe features, technical designs, and strategy
