Job Title: Assembly Technician

We are seeking an experienced Assembly Technician to join our team in the mechanical assembly of railcars. The successful candidate will have a Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or equivalent and possess strong knowledge of mechanical rollingstock systems.

The ideal candidate will be able to perform mechanical assembly tasks including torquing, bolting, piping, component and equipment installation, panel fitting, and door assembly in accordance with detailed work instructions. They will also be able to operate materials handling equipment safely and efficiently to support assembly processes.

The role requires excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Strong time management and forward-thinking skills are essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical assembly tasks including but limited to torquing, bolting, piping, component and equipment installation, panel fitting, and door assembly in accordance with detailed work instructions.
  • Operate materials handling equipment safely and efficiently to support assembly processes.
  • Conduct mechanical testing and fault finding.

About You:

  • Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade or Equivalent
  • Knowledge of mechanical rollingstock systems, manufacturing processes, and specialised equipment from production through to mechanical testing and commissioning is advantageous
  • In-depth understanding of manufacturing best practices
  • Ability to dismantle, replace, assemble, and fit mechanical and engineering components
