At Relationships Australia Queensland, we are a leading provider of relationship and family wellbeing services. Our purpose is to offer individuals and families the tools and support they need to build happier, healthier lives.
Our work promotes care and safety, embracing diversity to foster strong and connected communities. We are committed to expanding our expertise and leading conversations about relationships, mental health, and social connection.
We believe in making a positive impact on the lives of individuals and communities.
The Role
As a passionate and skilled Family Violence Practitioner, you will join our Stopping Family Violence program in Cairns, working as a permanent part-time employee. Your role will involve:
- Facilitating group sessions with men who use violence, supporting accountability and behaviour change while prioritising the safety and wellbeing of their partners, children, and families.
- Providing individual counselling where needed and contributing to community education initiatives that raise awareness of family violence and promote prevention strategies.
Your contribution will make a tangible difference in addressing and preventing domestic and family violence, helping to create safer, stronger, and healthier communities across the Cairns region.
In addition, you will:
- Assess and case manage each client to ensure the safety of the client and their family.
- Facilitate groups and provide crisis intervention and individual counselling to perpetrators of family violence.
- Provide information and support in relation to protection orders, court processes, and the Domestic and Family Violence Protection Act.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate training and education programs within the community.
- Develop and maintain appropriate contact with police, solicitors, court staff, other counsellors, and community agencies in the region to facilitate a community response to family violence.
You are a compassionate and skilled practitioner with a strong commitment to preventing family violence and creating safer futures for individuals and families. With qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences, you bring experience in both group facilitation and individual counselling, along with the ability to engage respectfully and effectively with clients.
You are confident working within community networks, partnering with agencies, and applying principles of community development to strengthen coordinated responses. Your knowledge of family violence theory and practice, combined with your passion for community education and behavioural change, equips you to make a meaningful impact in this vital role.
Additionally, you have:
- Undergraduate qualifications in the social or behavioural sciences.
- Experience working with clients in a group facilitation model and in individual counselling.
- Demonstrated experience working with local networks and agencies using principles of community development.
- Knowledge of current theory and practice relating to family violence and a capacity to deliver community education programs.
