Senior Piggery Stockperson Job Description

As a senior piggery stockperson, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of our piggery site. This includes supervising staff, maintaining facilities, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance programs.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge in animal husbandry, welfare, and pig production. They should also possess good verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to use computer systems.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supervising the site and facilities, including human resources, physical resources, safety requirements, consumables, documentation, and measurement devices.
  • Maintaining and ensuring compliance with the Company Quality Assurance program, keeping all relevant documentation current.
  • Undertaking specific tasks assigned by management to ensure environmental, quality, and safety goals are met.
  • Implementing preventive maintenance programs to reduce planned and unplanned downtime.
  • Supervising trial sheds, collecting and recording data according to trial protocols.
  • Selecting breeding stock and/or pigs for sale.
  • Participating in daily inspections of livestock to ensure they are properly fed, watered, and environmental parameters are met.
  • Identifying and treating compromised animals individually, in accordance with the Company Herd Health Plan and industry Model Code of Practice.
  • Euthanizing sick or injured stock in a humane manner, adhering to the Model Code of Practice for Animal Welfare – Pigs 3rd edition.
  • Conducting post-mortem examinations of deceased stock and reporting findings.
  • Participating in company/industry training sessions and workshops as required.

In addition to these key responsibilities, you will also be expected to perform any other duties as required by the Unit Manager.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must possess the following qualifications and skills:

  • AQF Certificate III (or higher/equivalent) qualification in Agriculture (Pig Production).
  • Advanced and extensive knowledge in animal husbandry, animal welfare, and pig production.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge in using computer systems is an advantage.
