Overview:
Job DescriptionThis role involves working with specialized equipment essential for road construction operations. As a skilled Bitumen Tanker Maintenance Technician, your main focus will be on ensuring the reliable and safe operation of bitumen tankers used in road construction and surfacing projects.
You will conduct routine inspections, diagnose mechanical faults, and perform preventative maintenance on tank systems, including burners, pumps, valves, and hydraulic components.
A key aspect of the role involves maintaining heating systems that keep bitumen at optimal temperature during transport and unloading.
You will also perform welding and fabrication repairs, monitor and calibrate temperature and pressure controls, and ensure all work adheres to safety, environmental, and transport compliance standards.
This role requires working both in workshops and occasionally on-site to support operational readiness and minimize downtime.
The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical and hydraulic systems, experience with burner systems and pipework, welding and fabrication skills, and an understanding of hazardous materials handling.
The ideal candidate will also have strong safety awareness and PPE compliance, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Routine maintenance of bitumen tanks and related equipment (valves, burners, pumps, hoses)
- Inspecting and repairing heating systems, such as diesel burners or LPG systems
- Servicing hydraulic systems used for loading/unloading bitumen
- Checking insulation and tank integrity to prevent heat loss or leaks
- Cleaning and flushing tanks to remove buildup or contamination
- Testing and calibrating gauges and sensors (temperature, pressure, level)
- Performing welding, fabrication, and mechanical repairs as needed
